In honor of the 250th anniversary of US independence, the US Treasury is exploring the production of a $1 coin featuring former President Donald Trump with a clenched fist under an American flag and the inscription “fight, fight, fight”.

Historical Link

These words directly references what Trump shouted immediately after narrowly surviving an assassination attempt four months before he won a second term.

Government Statement

US Treasurer Brandon Beach publicly revealed a concept of the coin on this week via X, saying: “Absolutely real. These drafts celebrating America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are authentic.”

The online announcement – which amplified another commentator discussing the coin concept – stated that Beach looked “excited to reveal additional details” after the resolution of the temporary shutdown that began after late Wednesday when opposition lawmakers demanding concessions on medical care and other funding matters declined to offer the approval necessary to pass a majority-backed funding bill.

Legislative History

As noted, in 2020, at the conclusion of his initial term, Trump enacted cross-party law authorizing the Treasury chief to issue $1 coins during the calendar year 2026 that are “emblematic of the United States quarter-millennial”.

Appearance Details

One side of the coin on whose draft design Beach weighed in Friday showed Trump’s portrait alongside “Liberty”, “Our Trust in God”, and “1776-2026”.

The reverse evoked the attempt on Trump’s life at a campaign event in the state of Pennsylvania last year, when law enforcement said a shooter wounded Trump’s ear and wounded two others before being shot to death by the Secret Service.

Trump clenched his hand after the attack – one of two assassination attempts for him as he won election for a second Oval Office term in 2024 – and shouted, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an national banner looming nearby.

Official Statement

A comment from a department official clarified that the proposal which Beach’s X post discussed was not the “official minted version”. But the response asserted that “this draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our land and republic, even in the wake of major hurdles”.
